This publication is devoted to the archaeological research of the ancient settlement of Kampyrtepa dated to the Hellenistic period. It is based on the results of many years of research by the author and the Tokharistan Archaeological Expedition (TAE), since 1972.
As a result of these studies, a huge archaeological material was obtained, which, together with information from written sources and cartographic data, made it possible to identify Kampyrtepa as Ptolemy's legendary Alexandria of Oxiana and the no less legendary "Greek" place of crossing the river described by the 15th-century Persian historian Hafiz-i Abra next to it.
