Uzbek-Chinese archaeologists are conducting research at the Ozod monument

The Samarkand Institute of Archaeology and the Silk Road Archaeology Research Center of Northwestern University of China are jointly conducting archaeological excavations at the Ozod monument in the Shurchi district of the Surkhandarya region.

The monument was discovered in 2023 during field research in the eastern part of the Surkhandarya basin. It is located southeast of the village of Ozod, about 6 km southeast of the Dalvarzintepa monument. It is one of the oldest cemeteries discovered in the area. Approximately 100 graves have been identified here.

Currently, archaeological research is being conducted on more than 10 graves at the Ozod monument. The findings are characteristic of the Sapalli culture, and their comparative-typological analysis indicates that the monument dates back to the 4th–5th centuries BC. It dates back to the 1700s–1500s.
