Sculptor's "Muses"

The organization of the first Republican Sculpture Exhibition in Tashkent in 1974, which was the first event of this kind in Central Asia, initiated by the remarkable sculptor Damir Ruzybayev, became a landmark in the development of fine arts in Uzbekistan. 

The exhibited items included not only indoor works, but also ancient examples of Central Asian sculpture discovered during excavations by archaeologists from Uzbekistan, including those headed by G. Pugachenkova. Damir Ruzybayev's personal participation in the archaeological expedition in Khalchayan and his presence at the discovery of the painted sculptures played a crucial role in the subsequent development of his creative methods. Five years later, in 1979, the next Republican Exhibition of Sculpture in Tashkent proved that in Uzbekistan this art had passed the stages of formation and was rapidly developing, occupying an important place in the visual arts of the country.
 

Damir Ruzybaev's works are particularly attractive. Becoming an artist in the early 1960s, from the very beginning of his career he was distinguished by a special style. Studying various trends in the contemporary world art, Ruzybayev has created sculpturally and aesthetically original compositions. He prefers to work in stone, wood and chamotte. 

The Old Man (wood, 1962), the series Three Generations (chamotte, 1967–1976), Nazarov (chamotte, 1970s), The Leader (Chamotte, 1970s) and The Cotton Picker (chamotte, 1977) showed his abilities as an experienced portraitist. In a number of his compositions, he creatively interprets archaic motifs. In the 1980s, Ruzybayev worked on a series of chamotte sculptural compositions titled “Muses” – “The Muse of Painting,” “The Muse of Sculpture,” “The Muse of Cinema,” and “Music”.
