He worked at the court of Amir Adud al-Dawla in Isfahan, translating and commenting on Greek works on astronomy, especially Ptolemy's "Almagest," adding his own observations and translating the Greek constellations' names into Arabic. His work "Suwar al-Kawakib" was completed around 964. The book was illustrated from the very beginning; the earliest copy with illustrations, made by the author's son, is kept at the Bodleian Library in Oxford and dates back to 1009. The treatise is written in Arabic.
